| What is a LifeGroup? A LifeGroup is a place where I can be real with a group of three to twelve other people. With them, I can move beyond small talk about the weather and feel like I really belong. We can support each other through life's challenges and celebrate life's victories. We can laugh together and help each other grow to love God and others more than we ever have before. Why does First Christian believe LifeGroups are so important? Acts 2:41-47 describes how the early church approached discipleship (the process of becoming more like Jesus). They met in homes, in smaller sized groups, to share, grow as friends and as Christians, and to study. Their approach changed their world and we believe it can change ours, too- one life at a time. Just like in the early days of Christianity, in a large church like First Christian Church, it is impossible for a few paid staff to meet the needs of the entire congregation. LifeGroups reduce the “span of care” and help make every member a minister. Why should I consider joining a LifeGroup? Life is not a solo sport. We have been created by God to live in community with one another. LifeGroups provide an environment where people can connect with one another, finding a sense of belonging, growth, and care. They offer a place where people can find healthy accountability and be challenged to mature. They are a place where my needs are met and where I can help meet the needs of others. In LifeGroups, people will find friendship, be mentored in the faith, discuss and understand the Word of Truth, identify and use their spiritual gifts, and provide care for one another. How can I connect with a LifeGroup? All of the following are ways you can connect with a LifeGroup at First Christian Church: - Fill out the registration form in the Lifegroups brochure and drop it off at the church office or Welcome Center;
- Take First Christian’s Next Steps Class for new members and learn about LifeGroups in more detail; or
- Call the church office at 937-399-1000 or email Joel Augustus, Discipleship Minister, at joel@FCCconnect.org.
Where do they meet? Most LifeGroups meet in homes, but in some circumstances they meet at the church. What do LifeGroups do when they get together? A typical 90-minute LifeGroup meeting includes a lot of fun and laughter, good food, sharing needs, discussing God's word, and encouraging and praying for each other. From time to time, groups may take on a volunteer service project. Often, just for fun, members of a LifeGroup will meet together for dinner, a movie or concert, or a sporting event. Is childcare available? There are many possibilities for childcare. Because all LifeGroups are a little bit unique, each group decides for itself the best way to address their childcare needs. |
